“Who you are is bigger than what happens to you.”
That’s just one of the powerful reminders from John Livesay in this TEDx Talk, delivered at TEDx Wilmington in April.
Here’s the setup:
Have you ever had a moment–or season–in your life where you could see a crisis coming, and maybe it felt like “…watching the Titanic in slow motion”? Like, “You could see the iceberg coming and you hoped you wouldn’t hit, but you knew you probably would.” That’s how John describes the sense of his career being disrupted as the marketplace changed in 2006-2008. Rather than sink, though, he took action and became “lifeguard of his own life.”
Watch this video and be inspired by John’s story, as you’ll also learn why the comfort zone is not the safe zone, learn how to stay calm in the face of disruption, and discover why not taking rejection personally is the key to getting off the self esteem roller coaster.
“No one is coming to rescue you… You have to be lifeguard of your own life.” – John Livesay
